CENOTILLO
Nestled deep within the rainforest of Yucatán, we designed a series of intimate cabins inspired by the vernacular principles of Mayan architecture and the unique character of the region.
The design draws from the Mayan legacy of harmony with the environment, reinterpreting traditional forms and spatial concepts into a contemporary language. The cabins are constructed entirely from natural, locally sourced materials—primarily timber and stone—ensuring both ecological responsibility and authenticity of place. The stone foundations and walls provide thermal mass and durability, while timber structures and cladding add warmth and lightness, echoing the textures and tones of the surrounding jungle.
Each cabin offers a sanctuary for rest, reflection, and immersion in nature. Carefully positioned openings frame views of the dense vegetation and invite natural ventilation, reducing the need for mechanical cooling while enhancing the sensory connection to the rainforest. Interiors are conceived as simple, uncluttered spaces, where the material honesty of wood and stone creates an atmosphere of calm and grounding.
Beyond comfort, the cabins are designed as a threshold between built space and the mystical ecosystem of Yucatán. They provide visitors with an opportunity to reconnect not only with nature, but also with the cultural spirit of the land—where architecture, landscape, and tradition coexist in quiet dialogue.
